About 2 weeks ago, I tried out the Y3K Tutor In Your Home tutoring service not knowing anything about the service or its tutors.  I needed a tutor to help me with the math portion of the TEAS nursing exam.  I met with the owner and was absolutely impressed and happy with the service that I received.  He went out of his way to work around my schedule.  He accurately observed my strengths and weaknesses and developed a plan of attack that best suited me and my study habits.  He also was able to breakdown each formula and put it into very simple terms/steps that were easy for me to execute.  After the test, I relayed the good news of my 10 point jump from the previous test result to him and he was really pleased to hear about my success.  I am very content with my experience with my tutor.  I highly recommend and I will be going back any chance I get.

The Y3K Tutor In Your Home owner has worked with my high school student for the past two years, helping with executive function, study skills, organization, time management, and homework coaching.  I am so grateful for his ability to act as coach, cheerleader and drill sergeant, often all at once. He enters our home with great energy no matter how late it is or how many students he may already have seen, and is instantly asking my student about last week’s test or homework assignment. He remembers the details of my student’s assignments – often better than the student does! The tutor presses gently but persistently until the results or outcomes are revealed. He has helped our student understand the importance of taking homework seriously and keeping up with it. He has contributed greatly to our student’s ability to track the volume of work and plan ahead for the coming week. This tutor is able to hold our student accountable and encourage the best effort in a way we, the parents, cannot do without a huge fight. Although the SAT tests are optional to get in to many colleges, high test scores can be an advantage when applying. Many college admissions specialists recommend high school students take the exams only if they expect to score well. Strong scores on the SAT and ACT exams will help you, but these colleges won’t hold it against you for not taking them.

More and more colleges each year realize the SAT is not an effective measure of student intelligence. The list of schools no longer requiring the SAT grows by the year. Several colleges including UMass Lowell and Salem State University have made the main SAT and ACT tests optional.

Here is the complete list of items collected for the Y3K Tutor In Your Home 14th Annual Buddy Dog Humane Society Collection Drive.  There are three convenient drop-off locations.  Pick-ups are the first Saturday of each month.  Our collection drive is from November 1st to January 10th.  Call now!

 

Most Needed Items:

• Limited-slip or Martingale collars of all sizes
• Non-clumping, clay cat litter
• Bleach, laundry detergent, liquid dish soap
• Canned dog food (any brand or variety)
• Canned cat food
• Soft, chewy treats (soft Milkbones, BilJacs, Buddy Biscuits, etc.)

 

For the Cats and Kittens:

• Blankets and soft cat beds
• Towels
• Toys (stuffed mice, fishing pole toys, catnip)
• New, standard-sized litter boxes (no hood)

 

For the Dogs and Puppies:

• Sturdy leashes, 8-foot
• Toys (squeaky and plush toys; NO tennis balls or rope toys)
• DentaStix, Greenies (no rawhides please)
• Blankets and soft dog beds
• Soft, chewy treats (soft Milkbones, BilJacs, Buddy Biscuits, etc.)
• Science Diet brand dry food
 

For the Staff:

• Office supplies: dry-erase markers, pens, staples, etc.

How to Study #2

The best way to study is to maximize the amount of study days. For example if a student has a test in two weeks and they spread it out over that two week period, they are going to score a lot higher than if they tried to do it all the night before. Even if they try to study two or three days before, their scores will not be as high as if they used the entire two week period.

False. The key to studying is to study smart or more efficiently as opposed to studying longer. Many students do not know how to study efficiently and waste a lot of time. Successful students tend to figure out what the teacher has deemed most important and that is what they study. These students don’t study everything, just what is important. Students that tend to earn “C”, “D” and “F” grades try to study everything, which automatically means they probably haven’t spent enough time studying the important material.
