The coronavirus caused school closures which forced the cancellation of spring SAT testing for about 1 million first-time test-takers, planning to enter college in 2021. The June 6, 2020 test session is the latest to be canceled. Just when you thought the SAT and all the stress and undue pressure it causes students was put to an end, the SAT people have come up with a way to stay alive.

The company that runs the SAT is working on a back up plan for future testing dates. A home version of the SAT college entrance exam is being prepared in case schools remain closed into the fall. Instead of a paper and pencil test given under proctors’ supervision, the home version would be digital and rely on “remote proctoring.” That could include using the computer’s camera and microphone to monitor movement or talking.  It will remain to be seen if this method could work without the possibility of mass cheating.

SAT & ACT Not Required

High school students rejoice. Due to the coronavirus, a growing number of universities are now dropping the SAT and ACT requirement for fall 2021 admissions, including Boston University and University of California. Currently the list is about 51 universities and colleges that have removed the ACT/SAT requirement for the fall of 2021 and some are even extending the ban through the spring of 2022.

Breaking News: SAT Canceled

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the College Board has announced that the SAT and SAT subject tests are canceled until further notice. Makeup exams for the March 14, 2020 testing date that was then postponed until March 28, 2020 are now officially canceled.  They have also canceled May 2, 2020 and June 6, 2020 testing sessions. Also eliminated are makeup tests for the originally scheduled March 25, 2020 SAT School Day administration and SAT School Day sessions on April 14, 2020 and April 28, 2020. PSAT sessions scheduled for April are canceled and will not take place this spring at all.

Students who already registered for May, whose March test centers were closed, or who do not receive March scores because of any irregularities will receive refunds. In May, students registered for June can transfer their registration to one of the fall SAT administrations for free. Students who want to cancel their SAT registration instead can get a refund by contacting their customer service.

Although during the coronavirus shutdown we are no longer to able to personally teach inside your home, we are still seeing all of our students with online tutoring. In many cases we are the ONLY educators left in that child or young adult’s life. The work of our staff is essential to those we serve. Our Y3K Tutor In Your Home tutors continue to tutor all students using FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp and more! Lessons are as if we are in your home sitting right next to you.

Here is the complete list of items collected for the Y3K Tutor In Your Home 16th Annual Buddy Dog Humane Society Collection Drive.  There are three convenient drop-off locations.  Pick-ups are the first Saturday of each month.  Our collection drive is from November 1st to January 10th.  Call now!

Most Needed Items:

  • Martingale collars of all sizes

  • Bleach

  • Non-clumping, clay cat litter

  • Laundry detergent

  • Canned dog food (any brand or variety)

  • Plastic storage bins in medium and large sizes with lids!

  • Instinct Brand Rabbit Formula (Wet and Dry) Cat food

For the Cats and Kittens:

  • Canned cat food (any brand, but not the shredded variety)

  • Towels

  • Fishing pole toys

  • Small, rubber-bottom bath mats for cats who shred their newspaper (New or gently used)

  • Non-clumping, clay cat litter

For the Dogs and Puppies:

  • Special Diets:

    • ​Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Venison dog food

    • Hill’s K/D

    • Low-fat, low-calorie, or high-fiber

    • Hills Science Diet ID canned dog food and kibble!

  • Sturdy leashes, 6-foot and 8-foot

  • Toys (with no choking hazards such as beads)

  • Bully sticks, DentaStix, Greenies (no rawhides please)

  • Blankets, towels, sheets

  • Pill Pockets

  • Soft, chewy treats (soft Milkbones, BilJacs, Buddy Biscuits, etc.)

  • Canned dog food (any brand or variety)

For the Staff:

  • Office supplies: pens, duct tape, etc…especially wet erase markers!

That’s a talent that not many authors have. Theresa has the ability to keep the reader wanting more constantly. This, of course, is a good thing for business. Theresa loves writing books and says that it’s her passion. We bet that she’s inspired many children to want to become an author, however, many believe that the road to becoming an author is too difficult for some of them to take. However, that’s far from the truth. Getting a book published is actually fairly simple, especially with the help of publishing companies that make it much easier for new authors to get their debut tales out for the public to read. Hopefully, more people will try this. You never know, you might just end up being as successful as Theresa. There will always be a demand for children’s books, so it might be time to follow your dream of being a children’s author.
