Y3K Tutor In Your Home has donated to yet another great cause. Save A Dog of Sudbury, MA will be running their Annual Benefit Auction. Look for the Y3K Tutor In Your Home auction donation at the event. We hope you will bid on our Sudbury tutoring and test prep services along with other fine items to help these dogs in need.

Save A Dog’s mission is to help adoptable, friendly dogs find permanent homes in the New England area. Many of their dogs require above-the-ordinary medical attention before they can go home. Private donations and fundraisers are their only source of funding. Y3K Tutor In Your Home and Save A Dog would greatly appreciate your support at their up coming auction.

COLLECTION DRIVE BEGINS TOMORROW: From November 1st through Jan 1st we will collect old towels, blankets, toys and office supplies for the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Dedham shelter. The abandoned and abused animals awaiting adoption desperately need these items. YOU may be the difference between their agony and happiness!

For the 10th straight year Y3K Tutor In Your Home will be doing this annual collection drive. We will travel to your Brookline, Dover, Natick, Needham, Newton, Sudbury, Wayland, Wellesley, or Weston MA home even if you are not a client or do not need tutoring. Head Lice and School

Head lice can be a common problem in children. Lice can be transmitted to others easily so proper treatment is essential. We all want to avoid getting lice. However what do you do if your child’s head starts to feel itchy? Any student suspected of having head lice should go to the nurse’s office for a hair inspection at school or to a doctor’s office immediately.

The goal is to identify and eliminate head lice and nits as quickly as possible to minimize interruption of classroom time. Any student found to have evidence of head lice must be excluded from school until proper treatment for lice has been completed. This is for the safety of the rest of the school.

If your student has head lice the following steps need to be taken:

1. Siblings and parents must be head checked to see if they have lice also.

2. Tell the school so a notice can be sent out to the affected classrooms as soon as possible. This will allow for proper cleaning and the head checks of classmates if the school deems it appropriate.

HOPE Sudbury Telethon & Auction

Y3K Tutor In Your Home will be donating some of our Sudbury tutoring and test prep expertise to the Hope Sudbury Telethon & Auction. This year the Hope Sudbury Telethon & Auction will be airing on Sudbury TV (Comcast 8/Verizon 31) and also streamed live online. Instead of waiting for the Y3K Tutor In Your Home Sudbury tutoring and test prep donation to air live, feel free to check us out in the Hope Sudbury Auction Guide. Under the “Kid’s Stuff” section on page 38 you will find the Y3K Tutor In Your Home tutoring donation. Look for #750 and make sure you bid for our tutoring services on November 3rd.

The money raised from the Hope Sudbury Telethon & Auction will be used to fund their signature program, the Hope Fund. The Hope Fund supports Sudbury residents who are struggling financially. In fact in 2011 alone, 69 Sudbury families turned to the Hope Fund for support. Together Y3K Tutor In Your Home and your auction bids can help bring out the best in the Sudbury community while supporting others in need.

High School Drug Use in Massachusetts

The responses from the 2011 Massachusetts Youth Health Survey and Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey of high school students had several surprising results.

40% reported drinking every month
30% use a drug
28% use marijuana
27% report being offered, sold, or given an illegal drug on school property in the previous 12 months
22% binge drink (5 or more drinks within 2 hrs)
6% reported non-medical use of a prescription drug
6% use marijuana during school
5% use inhalants
4% use alcohol during school
