Here are some ways for children to prevent water tubing injuries:
If your child goes tubing, there are certain precautions the adult boat driver should take. Adults should be alert to how wide the tube is swinging out from the wake. Look for possible obstacles for collisions. Boat drivers should slow down when towing tubes. Children riding in tubes can’t make changes in direction and when towed at higher speeds, the tube tends to whip wide outside the boat’s wake.

Take water breaks. If your child complains about dizziness, headache, nausea or muscle cramps, he or she could be overheated or at risk for heat-related illness.

Schools have been preparing for shootings like the one yesterday in Troutdale, Oregon. Due to the tragic Newtown, CT school shootings, some local cities and towns are keeping security in mind as they design new school buildings. For example, Newton, MA’s new Angier Elementary School building was supposed to have their kindergarten classrooms on the ground floor so these smaller kids could have easier access. After the Sandy Hook shootings, the City of Newton decided to move all classrooms at the Angier Elementary School to the second and third floors.
Helmets prevent 85% of head injuries. Have your child wear a helmet any time they are on wheels. This is true whether it is a bike, scooter, roller skates, inline skates or skateboard.
