We often hear about how critical thinking is an important life skill and how it is now becoming the focus of math and English in school. There are many tricks parents can do to build students critical thinking skills. These methods will prepare your student for the new Common Core Standards. Over the next several posts, we will take a closer look at some easy ways to help children involve critical thinking daily.

Organizational Skills Make All The Difference

Y3K Tutor In Your Home often receives phone calls and emails by parents all the time asking us to help their students with organizational skills. These skills can be the difference between a poor student and a successful student. Children without organizational skills more often than not, tend to fall behind and suffer with low grades. They have trouble keeping track of assignments and/or constantly losing things.

Over the next several posts we will offer some organization tips just in time for the new school year.

Foreign Travel With Kids

If traveling to another country with your children, be sure to bring all birth certificates, passports and documentation with you. Single parents traveling with children should bring a letter signed by the other parent giving permission for travel listing dates, location and names of those in the travel party.

Car Safety & Children

When driving children for a long family trip, often kids need items to keep them occupied. Be aware that loose items in the car can be thrown or become missiles in the event of a crash or sudden stop. Make sure loose items including DVD players, laptops, purses, CD’s, gifts, etc. are secured in either the trunk, console area, or under a cargo net. Only provide children with soft toys and games to play in the car.

Are We There Yet?

Another great car traveling tip when driving with children is to give them a map. They can see where you are at the moment and how far you have until you reach your destination. This will help with the “are we there yet” question.

Try to involve your children when planning a trip. This will help them maintain their interest throughout the journey. Show them the route on a map and let them help decide on places to stop including landmarks, hotels and restaurants.
