Read all the choices before deciding on the correct answer. Often there is a wrong answer that appears right or is 99% right but 1% wrong that is put in there to fool you. Students that are impulsive and do not read all the choices, tend to go for these wrong answers.

Y3K Tutor In Your Home’s Test Taking Strategies #1: Multiple Choice Questions – Elimination Method
If the answer does not stand out, try the elimination method. On a separate sheet of paper write down the letters, A B C D E to coincide with the letters of the multiple choice question. Then read over the potential answers. On your paper, cross out the letters of the answers that do not make any sense. At this point you will have eliminated all accept for the correct answer or have two choices remaining. Choosing one of the remaining two will give you 50/50 odds in getting the answer correct.

Students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 currently take MCAS tests in math and English, with some grades also taking annual science tests. The PARCC tests will also start in grade 3 but will be given straight through to 11th grade in both math and English. This is an addition of test taking in grades 9 and 11. Come back tomorrow to find out about the PARCC math tests.

Although in 2014 the new PARCC tests will be issued to certain MA schools for a trial run, all 10th graders will continue to take the MCAS tests. They will still be required to pass the MCAS tests in order to get their diploma.
Tomorrow we will look at how the new PARCC testing scores will be used.

The country is getting ready for new nationwide tests to measure student performance. Coming soon will be a trial run of the new national standardized test called Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). About 2/3 of MA’s schools have been chosen to participate in the PARCC trial next spring. This includes the Y3K Tutor In Your Home communities of Natick and Weston. The full list of schools participating in the trial run have not been released yet as some are still being chosen and notified.
