When sledding on a hill, make sure the land at the bottom is safe. It should be either fenced in so a sled won’t go into the street or have plenty of space to stop without entering the street. It should also be free of trees and other obstacles since an out of control sled could slam into them causing serious bodily injury.
Sledding Danger
Make sure kids do not create makeshift jumps or ramps when sledding. Kids have broken bones, become paralyzed, or died from landing wrong.
Sledding Accidents
Sledding accidents do happen. They can cause severe life changing injuries. Helmets have now become standard equipment for sports and sledding.
Failed Child Abductions
Most failed child abductions were unsuccessful because the child recognized a bad situation and got away, avoided, or scream and kicked to draw attention.
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children say most abductions occur when a kid is alone, usually in late afternoon or early evening.
